High-tech treatment for infertilty has become outrageously profitable for Big Pharma. Unfortunately as a society we are marketed to believe that the only real solution comes from hugely invasive, expensive procedures such as IVF. Emotional chaos induced by hormone injections, the unknown longterm health risks of such intervention, and the huge expense are considered worth the price of having a child–because people are unaware of the alternatives, I believe.
I think if couples realized there were simpler, noninvasive and much less expensive ways to diagnose and treat causes of infertility, they would jump at the opportunity.
