As far as alternative medical treatments go, acupuncture is probably the best known and perhaps the most widely accepted. Let’s take a brief look at what this popular procedure is and what it claims to be able to do. Acupuncture is believed to have originated in China over 2,000 years ago. It involves the use of very thin, flexible needles which are inserted into various “acupuncture points” in the body.
The acupuncturist will sometimes manipulate the needles by rotating them or moving them with a gentle pumping motion. Sometimes they will apply a weak electrical current to them. Because the needles are so thin, the treatment usually causes little or no pain.
